Encounters is het Jongerenprogramma van het Masterclass Festival Amsterdam. In dit programma werken jongeren (14-17 jaar) in de periode voorafgaand aan het festival aan een eigen productie, binnen het artistieke kader van de grootmeester en onder begeleiding van docenten van de curerende kunstinstelling. De performance tijdens en op het Masterclass Festival Amsterdam vormt het slotstuk. Met hun ervaring en vakmanschap verfijnen de grootmeesters de performances en brengen zij nieuwe invalshoeken in de productie.
Masterclass
Mime-regisseur Jakop Ahlbom opent zijn creatieve universum in een bijzondere masterclass. Bekend om zijn magische mix van mime, dans en fysieke verbeelding, neemt hij jonge talenten mee in zijn unieke werkwijze. Jongeren van De Amsterdamse Jeugdtheaterschool, A’DAM Music School en Solid Ground Movement creëren elk een eigen performance, die tijdens de masterclass tot één geheel wordt gesmeed. Bezoekers krijgen een zeldzame inkijk in het proces van een maker die werelden bouwt waarin niets is wat het lijkt. Een unieke belevenis voor liefhebbers van grensverleggend theater.

Jacob Ahlbom geeft de masterclass aan een geselecteerde – interdisciplinaire – groep van A’DAM Music School, De Amsterdamse Jeugdtheaterschool en hiphopschool Solid Ground Movement.
Jakob Ahlbom
Jakop Ahlbom (1971) is een internationaal geroemde regisseur en theatermaker. Hij staat bekend om zijn poëtische, visuele en fysiek expressieve voorstellingen. Geboren in Zweden verhuisde hij begin jaren ’90 naar Nederland om Mime te studeren aan de Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. Na zijn afstuderen in 1998 werkte hij als performer, choreograaf en regisseur met diverse opvallende makers. In 2000 richtte hij zijn eigen gezelschap op, Jakop Ahlbom Company.
Ahlbom ontwikkelde een eigen en eigenzinnige theatertaal waarin theater, mime, dans, muziek en illusionisme samenkomen. Zijn werk heeft een sterke visuele stijl en veel speelsheid. Het publiek wordt meegenomen in verrassende, vaak surrealistische werelden.
Voor zijn productie Lebensraum ontving Ahlbom de prestigieuze VSCD Mimeprijs, een belangrijke erkenning in het Nederlandse theaterveld. Het stuk werd geprezen om de inventieve combinatie van fysieke komedie, beeldende verbeelding en theatrale originaliteit. Zijn voorstellingen worden internationaal gespeeld en hebben hem zowel nationaal als internationaal bekendheid gebracht.
Encounters is the Youth Programme of the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam. In this programme, young participants (ages 14-17) work in the period leading up to the festival on their own production, within the artistic framework of the grandmaster and under the guidance of teachers from the curating arts institution. The performance during the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam serves as the finale. With their experience and expertise, the grandmasters refine the performances and introduce new perspectives into the production.
Masterclass
Mime director Jakop Ahlbom opens his creative universe in a special masterclass during the festival. Renowned for his magical blend of mime, dance, and physical imagination, he guides young talents through his unique working methods. Students from De Amsterdamse Jeugdtheaterschool, Adam Music School, and Solid Ground Movement each create their own performance, which is then woven into a single piece during the masterclass. Visitors get a rare insight into the process of a creator who builds worlds where nothing is as it seems. A unique experience for lovers of boundary-pushing theatre.
Talents
Jakob Ahlbom will give the masterclass to a selected interdisciplinary group from A’DAM Music School, the Amsterdam Youth Theatre School, and hiphop school Solid Ground Movement. Participant names will be announced shortly.
Jakob Ahlbom
Jakob Ahlbom (1971) is an internationally acclaimed director and theatre maker. He is known for his poetic, visual, and physically expressive productions. Born in Sweden, he moved to the Netherlands in the early 1990s to study Mime at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. After graduating in 1998, he worked as a performer, choreographer, and director with several notable makers. In 2000, he founded his own company, Jakop Ahlbom Company.
Ahlbom has developed a distinctive theatrical language that combines theatre, mime, dance, music, and illusionism. His work is characterized by a strong visual style and playful inventiveness, taking audiences into surprising, often surreal worlds.
For his production Lebensraum, Ahlbom received the prestigious VSCD Mime Prize, a major recognition in the Dutch theatre field. The production was praised for its inventive combination of physical comedy, visual imagination, and theatrical originality. His performances are presented internationally, earning him recognition both nationally and abroad.
