Language Masterclass: Nederlands/Dutch
Encounters is het Jongerenprogramma van het Masterclass Festival Amsterdam. In dit programma werken jongeren (14-17 jaar) in de periode voorafgaand aan het festival aan een eigen productie, binnen het artistieke kader van de grootmeester en onder begeleiding van docenten van de curerende kunstinstelling. De performance tijdens en op het Masterclass Festival Amsterdam vormt het slotstuk. Met hun ervaring en vakmanschap verfijnen de grootmeesters de performances en brengen zij nieuwe invalshoeken in de productie. De Amsterdamse Jeugdtheaterschool is de curator van deze encouter.
Masterclass
B-boy en NK-kampioen Sjoerd Poldermans, beter bekend als Stepper, zal zijn razendsnelle footwork, creatieve combinaties en podiumervaring overdragen aan een nieuwe generatie dansers.

Sjoerd Poldermans
Sjoerd, bijgenaamd Stepper, is een echte footwork-meester met razendsnelle stappen en het vermogen om moeiteloos tussen stijlen te schakelen, waardoor hij iedere keer weer verrast op de dansvloer. Hij is lid van The Ruggeds uit Eindhoven’ Eindhoven en won in 2019 het Nederlandse kampioenschap breaking, wat hem plaatste voor de wereldkampioenschappen in India.
Solid Ground Movement
Solid Ground Movement is een plek waar dansliefhebbers elkaar ontmoeten, talent wordt ontwikkeld en een levendige community ontstaat. Solid speelt een belangrijke rol in de ontwikkeling en kennisoverdracht tussen hiphopdansers en was een van de eerste organisaties die hiphopdans een plek in het theater gaf.
In 2004 richtten Alida Dors en Bryan Druiventak Solid Ground Movement op. Na jaren dansen in de hiphopscene specialiseerden zij zich in de theatrale kant van hiphop. Solid biedt een breed aanbod aan hiphop- en breakdance-programma’s voor kinderen en jongeren van verschillende culturele achtergronden en dansniveau’s. Nieuwe talenten krijgen de kans te schitteren op het podium, hun eigen kracht te ontdekken en deze met de community te delen.
Met het jongerenprogramma Young Solid stimuleert Solid de nieuwsgierigheid naar theater en leert jongeren de fijne kneepjes van het vak. Dans gaat immers veel verder dan een mooie choreografie: het draait om verhalen vertellen, overtuigen met bewegingen en mensen raken.
Encounters is the Youth Programme of the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam. In this programme, young participants (ages 14-17) work in the period leading up to the festival on their own production, within the artistic framework of the grandmaster and under the guidance of teachers from the curating arts institution. The performance during the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam serves as the finale. With their experience and expertise, the grandmasters refine the performances and introduce new perspectives into the production. The Amsterdam Youth Theatre School is curating this encounter.

Sjoerd Poldermans
Sjoerd, also known as Stepper, is a true footwork master with lightning-fast steps and the ability to switch effortlessly between styles, constantly surprising everyone on the dance floor. He is a member of The Ruggeds from Eindhoven and won the Dutch Breaking Championship in 2019, which qualified him for the World Championships in India.
Solid Ground Movement
Solid Ground Movement is a place where dance enthusiasts come together, talent is nurtured, and a vibrant community thrives. Solid plays a key role in the development and knowledge sharing among hip-hop dancers and was one of the first organizations to bring hip-hop dance into a theater setting.
In 2004, Alida Dors and Bryan Druiventak founded Solid Ground Movement. After years of dancing in the hip-hop scene, they specialized in the theatrical side of hip-hop. Solid offers a wide range of hip-hop and breakdance programs for children and young people from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying levels of experience. Emerging talents have the opportunity to shine on stage, discover their own strengths, and share them with the community.
Through the youth program Young Solid, Solid fosters curiosity for theater and teaches young people the nuances of the craft. Dance is far more than just a choreography: it is about telling stories, convincing through movement, and touching people.
