Encounters
Encounters is the Youth Programme of the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam. In this programme, young participants (ages 14-17) work in the period leading up to the festival on their own production, within the artistic framework of the grandmaster and under the guidance of teachers from the curating arts institution. The performance during the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam serves as the finale. With their experience and expertise, the grandmasters refine the performances and introduce new perspectives into the production. The Amsterdam Youth Theatre School is curating this encounter.

Masterclass
Patrick Mijnals, as pianist and music director, is responsible for the musical vision, rehearsals, and performances of various productions, including Ladies of Soul. During this masterclass, he demonstrates how a musician can create a vibrant and dynamic live arrangement from a recorded song. The students from A’DAM Music School gain insight into dynamics, tension, rhythm, and how to translate a studio production to the stage.

Patrick Mijnals
Patrick Mijnals is a Dutch composer, producer, and keyboardist who, together with guitarist Alvin Lewis, forms the dynamic musical duo HAYP, known for their live performances, production work, and genre-crossing compositions. With HAYP, he has created music for various productions and artists, including theater shows such as Closed Eyes and songs produced for artists like Trijntje Oosterhuis and Jennie Lena. Thanks to their versatile sound, HAYP is a highly sought-after band for both live performances and collaborations within the Dutch music scene.

A’DAM Music School
A’DAM Music School is a non-profit music education program for children and young people from Amsterdam, where they learn to make music by playing together in a band and creating their own repertoire. The school is located in the iconic A’DAM Tower at Overhoeksplein in Amsterdam‑Noord, a creative hub full of music, culture, and entrepreneurship. At A’DAM Music School, students rehearse in the tower, perform several times a year, and participate in workshops and activities such as songwriting and music production. The lessons are accessible, often free for Stadspas holders, and aim to strengthen skills, creativity, and self-confidence in young musicians.
