De masterclass richt zich op muziekcompositie met modulaire synthesizers. Ciani deelt haar grensverleggende ervaring en laat zien hoe ze tonen vormgeeft, texturen verkent en muzikale structuren opbouwt voorbij traditionele notatie.
Samen met twee getalenteerde professionals laat ze zien hoe modulaire systemen gezamenlijk kunnen worden gebruikt om patches te ontwikkelen, te experimenteren met geluid en composities live tot leven te brengen. De sessie belicht zowel technische als artistieke aspecten – van signaalrouting en modulatie tot het creëren van een dynamisch verhaal via geluid.
Talenten
Talenten zijn onder andere de Nederlandse elektronische artiest Vera Grace, wiens meeslepende techno en modulair-synthese-experimenten zijn gebaseerd op haar succesvol afgeronde Associate Degree in Elektronische Muziek aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam (2021–2023) en haar lopende zes maanden durende cursus Modular Synthesis, Live Patching & Performance Practice (2024–2025). Een tweede talent wordt nog aangekondigd.
Suzanne Ciani
Suzanne Ciani (4 juni 1946) is een Amerikaanse componist, sound designer en pionier van elektronische muziek, bekend om haar werk met de Buchla-synthesizer. Ze brak in de jaren zeventig door met elektronische muziek en iconische sounddesigns voor films en televisiecommercials, en experimenteerde daarbij ook met quadrafonisch geluid. Ciani werd vijf keer genomineerd voor een Grammy Award voor Best New Age Album en staat bekend als de “Diva of the Diode” en Amerika’s eerste vrouwelijke synthesizerheld. Met haar voortdurende optredens, opnamen en samenwerkingen blijft zij tot op de dag van vandaag een invloedrijke en relevante stem in de elektronische muziek.
The focus of the masterclass is on music composition with modular synthesizers. Ciani shares her groundbreaking experience, revealing how she shapes tones, explores textures, and constructs musical structures beyond traditional notation.
Working closely with two talented professionals, she demonstrates how modular systems can be used collaboratively to develop patches, experiment with sound, and bring compositions to life in real time. The session highlights both technical and artistic aspects—from signal routing and modulation to creating a dynamic narrative through sound.
Talents

Suzanne Ciani
Suzanne Ciani (born June 4, 1946) is an American composer, sound designer, and pioneer of electronic music, renowned for her work with the Buchla synthesizer. She rose to prominence in the 1970s with electronic music and iconic sound designs for films and television commercials, also experimenting with quadraphonic sound. Ciani has been nominated five times for a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album and is known as the “Diva of the Diode” and America’s first female synth hero. Through her ongoing performances, recordings, and collaborations, she remains a highly influential and relevant figure in electronic music today.
