Language Masterclass: Nederlands/Dutch
Encounters
Encounters is the Youth Programme of the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam. In this programme, young participants (ages 14-17) work in the period leading up to the festival on their own production, within the artistic framework of the grandmaster and under the guidance of teachers from the curating arts institution. The performance during the Masterclass Festival Amsterdam serves as the finale. With their experience and expertise, the grandmasters refine the performances and introduce new perspectives into the production. The Amsterdam Youth Theatre School is curating this encounter.
Masterclass
B-boy and Dutch Champion Sjoerd Poldermans, better known as Stepper, will pass on his lightning-fast footwork, creative combinations, and stage experience to a new generation of dancers.
Talents
Sjoerd Poldermans teaches the masterclass to a select group of young dancers from Solid Ground Movement.
Sjoerd Poldermans
Sjoerd, also known as Stepper, is a true footwork master with lightning-fast steps and the ability to switch effortlessly between styles, constantly surprising everyone on the dance floor. He is a member of The Ruggeds from Eindhoven and won the Dutch Breaking Championship in 2019, which qualified him for the World Championships in India.
Solid Ground Movement
Solid Ground Movement is a place where dance enthusiasts come together, talent is nurtured, and a vibrant community thrives. Solid plays a key role in the development and knowledge sharing among hip-hop dancers and was one of the first organizations to bring hip-hop dance into a theater setting.
In 2004, Alida Dors and Bryan Druiventak founded Solid Ground Movement. After years of dancing in the hip-hop scene, they specialized in the theatrical side of hip-hop. Solid offers a wide range of hip-hop and breakdance programs for children and young people from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying levels of experience. Emerging talents have the opportunity to shine on stage, discover their own strengths, and share them with the community.
Through the youth program Young Solid, Solid fosters curiosity for theater and teaches young people the nuances of the craft. Dance is far more than just a choreography: it is about telling stories, convincing through movement, and touching people.
